Dr. Odeh Nominated to join the World Economic Forum Expert Network

 

Dr. Ibrahim Odeh is nominated to join the World Economic Forum (WEF) Expert Network. He will join more than 5,000 world-leading experts engaged by the Forum to help shape the global agenda and will officially be listed as an expert in Engineering and Construction at the WEF.

Dr. Odeh started the collaboration with the WEF in early 2015. He was one of the advisory committee members who contributed to the study of the “Future of Construction”. The first report the team published in May 2016 was on Shaping the Future of Construction: A Breakthrough in Mindset and Technology. The second phase of this multi-year project got also presented at Davos last January and the report got published in February 2017 with a focus on Shaping the Future of Construction: Inspiring innovators redefine the industry. During last year, six Working Groups comprised of industry leaders, academics and experts met regularly to develop and analyze innovative ideas, their impact, the barriers to implementing solutions and the way forward to overcoming obstacles and implementing modern approaches in the construction and engineering industry. The team also published a white paper presenting the outcome of this work in the form of insight articles proposing innovative solutions on how to address the construction sector’s key challenges in the following fundamental areas: Project Delivery; Life cycle Performance; Sustainability; Affordability; Disaster Resilience; and Flexibility, Livability and Well-being. Dr. Odeh was the working group lead on the first topic: Project Delivery.
 

Dr. Odeh joined Columbia University 7 years ago and he is the founding director of the Global Leaders in Construction Management (GLCM) initiative. The GLCM focuses on bridging between the theory and practice in construction with the support of several global construction leading firms in the last several years such as: Turner, AECOM, Skanska, WSP/PB, Hill International, HAKS, TAV, Turner & Townsend, and Atkins. He also teaches several courses in the civil engineering department with a focus on: Entrepreneurship; Strategy; Project Management; and Principles of Construction Techniques. Finally, Dr. Odeh runs a specialization in Construction Management hosted on Coursera where over 17,000 students globally registered for his specialization since October 2016. He also advises and consults for several global firms in the AEC industry.

Dr. Odeh received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a focus on Construction Management from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also holds an MBA degree with an emphasis on Finance from Minnesota, USA. He serves as a member of several advisory boards and committees such as: the World Economic Forum; Smart City Works; CG/LA Infrastructure; Columbia University Middle East Research Center; AECOM Academy; and C3 Summit.
