During his visit, he met with ministers, vice ministers and directors of various government offices. The purpose of his visit was to initiate a long-term mechanism to exchange information on resilience-based seismic hazard protection and mitigation. At this time, the Japanese government is preparing for implementation of an epoch-making national project that will transform Japan's current seismic design and construction standards which are fundamentally based on the fail safe concept to that based on seismic disaster resilience. This is a major national project aiming at making Japan the world's first earthquake resilient nation.
